Live capture of Ex Cathedra's annual Candlelight Carol Concert, filmed with minimal impact on the performance and later acquired for Sky Arts.

The Challenge
We filmed Ex Cathedra’s Christmas Music by Candlelight at St Paul’s Church in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter, an as-live Facebook broadcast prepared and delivered in under 24 hours. The interior was lit almost entirely by candles, and our challenge was to film by candlelight at broadcast quality, with minimal visible noise and without adding lighting that would break the atmosphere.
The Method
We put several Sony FX9 cameras through their paces in the venue beforehand, filming at very high ISO to hold the candlelight while keeping noise to a minimum. The broadcast was vision mixed live using a Roland V-600 UHD switcher, fed with progressive 1080p output from each FX9, supported by a dedicated vision mixer and a gallery PA. Captions and credits were prepared in advance, with any final refinements made the next day.
What We Delivered
A warm, intimate and cinematic capture of Christmas Music by Candlelight, filmed at very high ISO with minimal visible noise and broadcast live on Facebook. 245,000 engagements, 122,000 views and almost 28,000 ten-second views. Post edited and acquired by Sky Arts for an Xmas broadcast
